The Golden Court

The Golden Court is a circle of demigods who serve under the paternal rule of the Golden Dragon King. Each member dwells eternally within a tower shaped in the image of their native kingdom, nestled within the grand castle of the Golden Citadel. To keep their powers honed and attuned, the Golden Dragon King issues a steady stream of challenges, quests, and trials during the era known as the Tranquility. Victorious members are rewarded with abundant Essence and the King’s favor.

Those who accrue the highest favor before the Ascension are granted the prestigious role of Kingdom House Sponsors in that year’s Games. However, should any Kingdom act against the will or laws of the Golden Dragon King—such as by declaring war—a Golden Court member from that Kingdom is charged with correcting the offense. This may include severe penalties, like diminishing the Kingdom’s favor in the upcoming Ascension.

Aside from this duty, Court members are forbidden from interfering in the mortal realm. They are expected to remain distant, immersed in their vast power within the Citadel. Yet whispers persist of certain members secretly slipping away to walk among the Kambrian mortals, meddling in affairs below. The Golden Dragon King, ever inscrutable, is said to turn a blind eye to such indiscretions—so long as they remain minor.
